Its aim is to reduce, and hopefully eliminate, the 50k worker deaths and injuries that happen each year in and around U.S. infrastructure construction projects. It's targeted at construction workers and supervisors and foremen, inspectors, planners, designers and manufacturers, equipment operators and suppliers of materials, as well as owners who can benefit from acquiring the knowledge necessary to identify life-threatening onsite hazards. The SCTPP test is a 2.5-hour long test with 120 multiple choice questions. These questions focus on the process of assessing, drafting and implementing safety plans for projects, identifying risks and mitigating them, managing personnel on project sites, preparing an investigation plan, preparing accident/incident reports, and conducting training sessions. If you succeed in passing the SCTPP will earn professional certification, which is valid for three years. Recertification requires documented, continuing education in the area and the retesting. To qualify to be considered for the SCTPP applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in construction or engineering and two years of experience* working on transportation construction sites. This experience can include working as a laborer, operator, foreperson or superintendent and can also be acquired through internships. Candidates must also pass an OSHA 30 or 510 course. SCTPP covers the weighted-average tuition at a school that participates in the program or the actual tuition charged or the lesser amount, whichever is less. SCTPP will cover certain expenses but not all.
